Electromagnetic Flow Meter

High-accuracy electromagnetic flow measurement for conductive liquids

Key Features

  • No moving parts — zero pressure drop
  • Full-bore design for unrestricted flow
  • Bidirectional flow measurement
  • PTFE or rubber liner options for chemical resistance
  • RS485 Modbus, HART, 4–20mA output

Product Overview

The TL-MAG Series electromagnetic flow meter uses Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction to measure the volumetric flow rate of electrically conductive liquids. With no moving parts, no pressure drop, and a fully bore design, it is ideal for water, wastewater, slurries, chemicals, and other conductive media. Available in flanged, wafer, and remote-mount configurations.

Working Principle

Electromagnetic flowmeters operate on Faraday's Law of electromagnetic induction. When a conductive liquid flows through the magnetic field generated by the meter's coils, a voltage proportional to the flow velocity is induced across the electrodes. The microprocessor converts this voltage to volumetric flow rate. Since there are no moving parts and the bore is unobstructed, pressure drop is negligible and the meter is suitable for slurries and abrasive liquids.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of liquids can an electromagnetic flow meter measure?+

Electromagnetic flow meters measure any electrically conductive liquid with conductivity ≥5 µS/cm. This includes water, wastewater, slurries, acids, alkalis, pulp, and most chemical solutions. They cannot measure hydrocarbons, gases, or steam.

What is the minimum pipe size available?+

The TL-MAG Series is available from DN10 (3/8 inch) to DN2000 (80 inch). For very small pipe sizes, contact us for availability.

Does the electromagnetic flow meter cause a pressure drop?+

No. The full-bore design means there are no obstructions in the flow path, resulting in zero additional pressure drop.

What is the accuracy of the TL-MAG Series?+

Standard accuracy is ±0.5% of reading. A high-accuracy version with ±0.2% of reading is available for custody transfer and billing applications.

Can the flow meter measure bidirectional flow?+

Yes. The TL-MAG Series measures forward and reverse flow simultaneously, with separate totalizers for each direction.
