What is a Chemical Dosing System?
A chemical dosing system (also called a chemical metering system or dosing skid) is a complete, integrated unit that stores, prepares, and injects chemicals into a water or process stream at a precisely controlled rate. Chemical dosing systems are essential in water treatment, wastewater treatment, cooling water management, and industrial process control wherever chemical addition must be accurate, consistent, and automated.
TL Environment chemical dosing systems are skid-mounted, factory-assembled, and tested before delivery. Each system integrates a chemical storage tank, agitator (where required), metering pump, online sensors, and a PLC-based control panel with HMI display. All systems support RS485 Modbus RTU communication for SCADA and BMS integration.
Key Selection Criteria
- Chemical type: Coagulant (PAC/alum), flocculant (PAM), acid/alkali, disinfectant (NaOCl/ClO₂), scale inhibitor, biocide
- Dosing rate: Required flow range (L/h or mL/h) and turndown ratio (typically 1:10 to 1:100)
- Control mode: Constant flow, proportional (flow-based), or closed-loop (sensor-based PID)
- Chemical concentration: Concentrated chemical vs. diluted solution; dissolution/preparation required?
- Materials compatibility: Wetted parts must be compatible with the specific chemical and concentration
- Integration: 4–20 mA, RS485 Modbus RTU, or digital I/O for SCADA/BMS/DCS integration
